To Define a Conservative

Is it possible? I hear a lot of rumbling about what the GOP needs to do to move forward and redefine itself. Maybe it would help to take a step back and make sure everyone knows just what the heck conservatism means to begin with. There is an actual definition.

Maybe when we do that, we’ll see while there is some room for debate there are some things we should be agreeing on already.

The 6 Defining Principles of Conservatism:

  1. Belief in natural law
  2. Belief in established institutions
  3. Preference for liberty over equality
  4. Suspicion of power—and of human nature
  5. Belief in exceptionalism
  6. Belief in the individual

Just for Fun: What Breed of Conservative are you?

Just in case you didn’t already have me pegged, here is my result.

“Your Conservative Breed: Faith-Based Fighter

You are a Faith-Based Fighter, also known as a religious conservative. You believe in Judeo-Christian values, restoring God’s rightful place in the public square, and in showing all the unwashed and unsaved liberal sinners the path to salvation, or at least to the GOP.
